IMAGINE

...a young girl.  A nice girl, known to you.

Against her parents wishes she becomes involved with a man and moves in with him.  He is abusive, cruel and gradually strips her of dignity, confidence and self-worth. Once she is a shadow of her former self he leaves her with outstanding debts and bills. She feels shamed and isolated.

Needing love and purpose she slides into sleeping around. Each partner introduces new ways to have fun - recreational drugs and alcohol play a large part in this new lifestyle - anything to escape from her reality!

Depression stops her facing up to bills and debt.  She slips so far behind with payments that she is evicted.

Sleeping rough, she eats from bins. Then someone she has seen a few times offers her a sofa. She tells her story, feeling hopeless and distraught. Her new 'friend' offers her a smoke that will take away all the pain.

Within days she has a heroin habit.

Within weeks she is injecting.

Who is going to help her?

ADDICTION MAKES SLAVES OF PEOPLE !

ADDICTION WRECKS LIVES

Enslavement by addiction wears away responsibility and the ability to cope with daily living.  Sufferers lose control of their behaviour and their thinking.

They no longer have choices.

"JUST SAY NO"

is what we are told.  Things are not always that simple. Good people become involved in substance abuse for many reasons.  Often it happens when they are at their lowest ebb: homeless, hopeless or helpless.

This can happen to anyone. To someone you know. To a member of your family - even to you. The possibility is real.
